A Cyclic Redundancy Check, or CRC, error typically means a
hard drive problem, and your symptoms do match. The fact that
it's happening with one file (the messenger log) would tend
to indicate a bad spot on the disk.
I'll point you to this article for some suggestions and tools
to run ... specifically, you should run chkdsk, as outlined
