I would use Hamachi (http://hamachi.cc) - in fact I'm doing
exactly what you describe. It's a very lightwieght, easy to
configure, VPN. I'm 100 miles north of my home right now,
but using the Wi-FI provided by the place I'm staying, I
can see all the machines and printers on my home network.
