Not sure what to tell you other than "it works for me" :-).
Quite literally I selected some text from a word document,
Hit Edit.Copy (Ctrl+C), then hit File.Save As, clicked in the
filename box, and hit Paste (Ctrl+V) and it pasted right
where expected.
Not sure why that doesn't work for you.
