Actually I have, and was fairly impressed.

I use Microsoft Visual Studio as my editor, which is overkill
for anyone not actually writing software for Microsoft platforms.
(Hence my lack of a direct, blanket, recommendation to date.)
My last position at Microsoft was, in fact, on the Visual Studio
team. It's incredibly powerful, but also comes with a lot of
baggage.

Were I to drop VS (as I may someday hence), Textpad is on the
short list to be evaluated.
